Sun Tzu believed that the best way to outsmart your enemy was to attack where he is unprepared. In other words, hit him where he is not expecting it. You can imagine how this idea could be taken further. For instance, imagine if you were a ninja warrior and you were going up against a samurai warrior.

If you attacked him where he was sleeping, you would have a much better chance of defeating him. But, if you attacked him while he was awake and fully prepared to fight, then his defense would be strong and there would be no way that you could win.
